Origins of Vlissingenwebcam.
Vlissingenwebcam was born with the idea to place a webcam in Flushing and to give you lovely picture of the other side of the Western Scheldt. There are several beautiful Flushing webcams on the boulevard, but we wanted to give webcam lovers a picture of what's happening around the corner and you can watch the ship's go by. The website has been online since May 8, 2009 and the webcam has gone online on June 16, 2009. The webcam is not 24 hours online like the others.
Direction of the camera.
The webcam is set up in height towards the south of the Orange Dijk overlooking the Western Scheldt. This webcam can be rotated and sometimes changes of position. This does not happen all the time because its no automatic system. This webcam also has a 27x optical zoom lens, so the ships wil be clearer. The distance between the webcam and the water is about 350 meters. The camera has some wind sensitivity because it is mounted on a antenna mast.So what the webcam does in a real storm, you will be able to see live on Webcam Vlissingen.
Camera image quality.
The image quality depends on the sun and the exposure that the camera has to deal with. The camera is facing south so morning and afternoon sun, turns a front of the camera. Late afternoon when the sun behind the camera rotates the image at its best. At night the camera switches to night mode, and the camera has difficulty to focus. Because it is quite dark on this side of the Westerschelde, the camera will turn off a little earlier than, the summer months. Although I hope you enjoy the images on Vlissingenwebcam.

Ship's on the Western scheldt.
Between 150 to 180 ship`s per day come over the Western Scheldt. In between are also large shipments destined for Antwerp and Vlissingen-Oost. Shipping movements in the Westerschelde are still rising. The same applies to the dimensions of the vessels. Because the first seven test runs, of MSC ship`s with a length of more than 360 meters on the Western scheldt are successful, the conditions for passage in the future are positive. The Western has many shallow spots and strong currents, it is therefore the one most difficult rivers to navigate. The ships on the Western Scheldt, therefore need a pilot on board. The pilot then coming on board in Flushing, and brings ship to its destination. These large ships you can see on Vlissingenwebcam.nl because they are quite close to the coastline. See all from your chair on our webcam.
